The reason why students cannot continue their studies is the family income. There are mothers with very low income that education cannot pay to go to college, even though they want to. This is very true especially at this time of recession. Many people have lost their jobs because many companies have shutdown. Mothers have no other choice but to cut down on their expenses and that includes educational expenses.
Mothers are rarely provided any opportunity in the society. They are always thought to be fending for themselves all the time and are never properly taken care of. A mother also needs proper guidance and help. She might be the strongest pillar holding her family but in her heart she longs for stability and a support which could help her conquer her dreams. She earnestly looks forward for that glimmer which could help her shine in her life but in the end without any hope retires to a life of a cocoon inside the shell. The low-income mothers are the worst hit wherein with the kind of financial strain they face, they can’t even dare to dream. President Obama realizes this as a cause hampering the growth of the nation and this has led to the launch of scholarships for low-income mothers by the U.S Government.
These educational grants are offered because it is commonly recognized that the modern economy requires educated workers. Those who want to lead better lives need better jobs which need at least college degrees. Many private foundations have high expectations of these adult women who show the drive to go back to college so that they can better provide for their family.
From the federal government, there are the Pell and FSEOG grants. These are actually open to any US citizen, which means that our unfortunate single mother is also eligible to apply for it. Given her difficult finances, she is likely to receive close to the full amount – $5500 for the Pell grant and $4000 for the FSEOG grant – if she studies full time. That means she can easily pay for her college tuition almost completely through these two grants, with the remainder as a government-subsidized Stafford or Perkins tuition loan. Of course, if she studies part-time, her college tuition fees will cost less and she will receive correspondingly less government aid.
The U.S Government is trying its level best to pass on its message to the mothers from the low-income group and has initiated the Obama’s ‘Moms Return to School’ program. This is a sincere effort on the part of the federal government to focus on the educational needs of the mothers and provide educational facilities for them by sponsoring their finances. The foremost medium of education in these programs is through online studies, hence it does not get in the way of the responsibilities of the mothers.
Education is responsible for the progress of the nation. Citizens are the roots of a nation and their prosperity in turn is the success of the country. The U.S Government scholarships for low-income mothers exactly aims at this point and is a genuine plea from the side of the government to avail the scholarships and financial aid provided in the best possible way.
Many places offer scholarships just for being in a specific group. Take just a few minutes to get a scholarship just for being a mother. That’s $10,000 that does not have to be paid back. Here it is, Scholarship for Mothers [http://scholarship-for-mom.org] and it’s free.
